This picture is my last assignment in Photo 1,2! Mattie Poe is my model for this project. I took this picture in color then used Photoshop to change it into black and white. I used natural door light rather than the artificial light for this picture. The purpose of this project is for me to utilize natural light as my advantage to take nice pictures. I think this assignment is extremely useful because I don't have a constant access to strobe light/ professional lighting. I think this picture has nice contrast between black and white. Since Mattie's outfit and the background are black which makes her face really pop. I think this project is successful because I used all the skills I have learned throughout this school years to take this picture, from camera setting to Photoshop editing.
For this public service announcement project, my group chose the national debt as the topic. National debt is a serious problem; many people are unaware it because they believe that the national debt does not effect them. However, the national debt will hurt the next generation. The picture shows the model, Ms. Poe, squeezing a $100 bill as if she is trying the get the most out of it. The $100 bill may seem like a lot but there is a possibility will be worthless after the enormous amount of taxes that goes into repaying the debt. Social Security tax, for example, must raise to satisfy the Baby Boomer generation going into retirement. I included the link to the National Debt Clock that shows the always growing national debt in real time. I believe that this picture brings a high amount of awareness to the audience; therefore, I chose to leave it horizontally long so it will fit on two pages in a magazine. Overall, I think this project is successful because I utilized the golden rule to emphasize the money, drawing the viewer's attention directly toward the main subject of the picture. Additionally, the lettering at the bottom right fits the curves of the hand nicely which creates a nice flow.
This picture shows the reflection of a sadden eye. When I was shooting this picture, I ask the model to hold two mirrors. One mirror reflects the eye and the other reflects it to the camera. I specifically tried to place the eye at one of the "golden point" of the rule of third. The concept of this piece is that the eye is truly is the window to the soul. A person can appear "happy" but their eyes can tell you otherwise. I was not sure what to focus during the session but I chose to focus on the eye and make the hand blurry because I think that it reinforces the idea that the eye is main subject. I think overall this project is successful because I planned out everything before I shoot the picture and had a clear idea of what wanted to do and the final project is exactly how I imagined it.
This album cover is an inspirational piece based on Imagine Dragon's Night Visions album. I tried to incorporate as many elements from the original album as possible and added some of my touches. The title and the subtitle are in Latin because I want the viewers to have a sense of the dark time, the time before technologies. The "fog" enforces that concept by making the picture somewhat eerie. At the very center of the album cover is an anonymous entity. This entity could be anyone, even you; it represents the feeling of being lost, being out of place, and ultimately the sense of being lonely. I think this project was successful because I did recreate the album cover in my way and my concept flows together nicely. Additionally, I incorporated many Photoshop skills that I learned in the previous projects.
I asked my model to wear black and white, knowing that my group will choose the white background. I want to convey the concept of the darkness inside something pure. The first, second, and fourth picture I want to show the different expression that are considered negative to contrast the white but cooperate with the black pants and hair that are representing darkness. The third and the fifth picture, I wanted the model to pretend to hold something to represent the concept of how people value non-tangle objects such as vanity and hate or love. I think that I did a decent job taking these pictures. However, I ran into few problems trying to fix the images when cropping. I used a tool that Ive never used before, the smudge tool, to smudge out a certain unintended things on the pictures.
"Art is Everything." This phrase is the final phrase my group chose after a series of ideas. Every idea that each member gave always starts with "Art is..." So choosing the phrase "Art is Everything" makes sense. Finding the "natural" formation of letter was a great struggle. As a group we wondered around for a considerable amount of time before we found what we wanted. Personally, I tried to find abstracts formation of different letters: A, R, T, S, and Y. The letter A is my favorite because it has the branches of the tree form a perfect A. Overall, I believe this assignment is a success. The process was very frustrating but my group and I pulled through and found every letter we needed.
